Building a channel: how to recruit reps, distributors and partners when you have no sales team
A lot of good companies stall at the same wall. The product works, a few customers love it, and there is nobody out selling it. Hiring a sales team is slow and expensive. The faster path is usually a channel: independent reps, distributors, referral partners, and franchise operators who already have the relationships you need.
Start with who already sells to your buyer
The best rep for your line is already carrying an adjacent line into the same accounts. The best distributor already stocks the category. The best referral partner already advises your customer. Map them by territory and by what they carry today. That list is your channel, before you have made a single call.
Give them a reason to add you
Reps and distributors add lines that make them money without making them work harder. Lead with margin, exclusivity in a territory, marketing support, and proof that customers are asking. A rep who gets three warm leads from you in the first month becomes a believer.
Recruit like outreach, because it is
Channel building is a campaign. Named targets, a message with a reason to reply, follow-up by a person, calls to the warm ones, and a weekly count of conversations, agreements signed and territories covered. It is the same engine as customer outreach, pointed at partners instead of buyers.
Feed the channel or it dies
The number one reason channel programs fail is silence after signing. Keep partners supplied with leads, content and trade press mentions they can forward. A rep who hears from you every week sells you. A rep who hears from you at signing forgets you.
You do not have to build it alone
Optuny runs channel building as a lane: rep and distributor mapping, recruitment outreach, partner enablement, trade press, and weekly reporting on the pipeline. If you are missing sales reps, tell us how many territories you need covered and we will show you the play. Start here.
We build the list. We do the outreach. You take the meetings. Any industry.
